    About Subcontinent

Founded by Dhwani Gudka and Keshav Mahendru, Subcontinent, at its core, is a space of inquiry where historical narratives intersect with contemporary practice. Subcontinent believes in focusing on including artists and legacies that course correct and complete the larger narrative of South Asian art history.  Their specialization lies in the ability to identify the aesthetic and historical contributions of said artists, combined with a well-shaped muscle for research and an eye for the wonderful and magical.

Through thoughtfully curated exhibitions and outreach, Subcontinent aims to be a platform for exploring and shaping the artistic identities of the region. Beyond exhibitions, Subcontinent envisions itself as a place for people — for bringing together artists, scholars, collectors and cultural practitioners to engage in critical and timely dialogue.
  • About the Gallerists

Keshav Mahendru, a Duke University graduate, established FAQ Art, a boutique art advisory firm that has worked with leading galleries, museums, private collectors and corporations. FAQ Art has been instrumental in shaping art collections and engagement strategies for institutions such as the Glenbarra Art Museum in Japan and The Ark Foundation for the Arts in Baroda, among others. His deep understanding of the art ecosystem and his ability to bridge commercial and institutional worlds have positioned him as a key player in India’s contemporary art scene. Prior to establishing FAQ Art, Keshav was Strategic Market Analyst at Paddle8-Auctionata, NY, at the time, the largest online auction house in the world.

Dhwani Gudka, a Fulbright-Nehru scholar, with degrees in Museum Studies and Art History from NYU, has contributed to significant exhibitions at major museums in New York and Mumbai - the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the CSMVS. Prior to her time in the States, Dhwani was a South Asian art specialist at Saffronart and Christies, both leading auction houses in India, where she was instrumental in evaluating and securing historic private collections that went on to make record-breaking auction results. Her consulting practice at Special Projects, established in 2020, has worked with artist archives, collectors, foundations and museums, including managing one of the most important private holdings of modern and contemporary South Asian art.
