9 exciting art shows in Mumbai and Delhi to look out for in September

Romanticising the everyday is something that most are familiar with. It lives in our phone galleries— endless documentations of the way light falls through a window, a sign on the road, your morning coffee, and everything else in between. Yet, there is an emptiness that resounds in these images. ‘Where the Light Falls Gently’ by Hemali Vadalia infuses a sense of warmth and contentment into these moments of the everyday, whether it be making kombucha or watering the plants of her studio.

The process of painting is almost painstakingly slow when compared to capturing images on your phone, and Hemali Vadalia’s works are an embodiment of that slow gaze—engaging in, “The discipline of witnessing life and letting paintings witness you back,” as the curatorial note describes it.

On view: 14th August - 13th September
