Bombay Blooms

Art: Lady Winifred Strangman, Subcontinent; Photo: Onkar Abhyankar

When Lady Winifred Strangman arrived in Bombay in the early 1900s, she turned her attention to the city's plants, flowers and wildlife, painting them with a level of detail rarely seen from the period. Fewer than ten of her works are known to survive today, and Bombay Blooms brings together six of them in what is the largest presentation of her work to date. It's also a rare chance to revisit colonial-era Bombay through the work of a woman artist who spent three decades calling the city home. Website.
